With rumors that he spat on co-star Chris Pine, a movie quote from Harry Styles is going viral.
At the press conference for Don’t Worry Darling at the Venice International Film Festival on Monday, September 5th, the 28-year-old former member of One Direction said that the best thing about the movie he’s in is that it’s a movie.
His favorite aspect of the film was how cinematic it was, he told the press. An actual, theatrically-viewable motion picture, as one reviewer put it. To date, the Twitter video of Pine’s blank stare while Styles spoke has over 9.8 million views.
One fan of the 42-year-old actor and Wonder Woman star wrote: “You can almost see the screams catching in his throat.”
“Someone else added, “Poor Chris Pine looks like he’d rather be anywhere else on the planet,” and a third added, “PLEASE.” For a moment there, I thought someone was making fun of me. Then I listened to the original clip of him talking and realized it was an accurate representation of what he had said. Oh no, I can’t take that seriously, lmao.”
Another added, “Someone needs to rescue this man,” while a fifth made light of the situation by saying, “I tryna get my word count on an essay.” But some people came to the singer of “As It Wasdefense. “‘
Another user tweeted, “When I heard it too I was like uh bit cringe, but you can get what he means + it’s understandable to not have your best words when you’ve been touring for multiple months in multiple countries + a jet lag.” Some degree of compassion is too deep for Twitter.
A second person agreed via email: “Actually, I did grasp his meaning. It’s perfectly fine if the vast majority of today’s youth don’t. Things have changed for movies because now everyone watches them on their own time or on streaming services. When he said the movie evoked a sense of nostalgia for going to the theatre, he meant exactly that.”
Fans have been debating whether or not Styles spit on Pines in another video that has gone viral on social media platforms like Twitter and TikTok.
The incident in question occurred on Monday night at the premiere of the film when the Englishman sat down next to the Star Trek actor. In the video, it can be seen that Styles spits directly at Pines, who stops clapping and appears to shake his head in response.
